IEEE pauses 802.20 standard - A setback for Qualcomm
ITWeek: IEEE standards body has decided to suspend development of the 802.20 broadband wireless protocol. The 802.20 standard is a competitor to 802.16 standard or Wimax.
The 802.16 standard is backed by Qualcomm (Nasdaq: QCOM) and Flarion which was acquired by Qualcomm. This is certainly good for Wimax which is backed by heavyweights such Intel and Motorola.
This is also good news for a couple of struggling Wimax stocks: Alvarion (Nasdaq: ALVR) and Airspan (Nasdaq: AIRN).
